This is a little topic I have been arm wrestling with for some time now, how to define propper PSTN usage profiles for South Africa.
During my MCITP/MCTS Lync 2010 training we were normalising numbers for Redmund and Italy and Rome, nice examples, but hardly giving me any indication of South African rules.
So, I have decided to post these, for anyone out there, looking for South African Numbers, since I am in Johannesburg, my examples will be for Johannesburg:
Johannesburg Local Calls:
+27110 – Neotel
+2711 – Telkom
+2780 – Telkom Tollfree
+2786 – Sharecall
+2710 – New range, also includes telkom services, like 1023 etc..
Johannesburg National Calls:
+272 – Western Cape
+273 – KZN
+274 – PE
+275 – BFN
+276 – Dunno this one 🙂
+2712 – Gauteng Numbers non local
+2713 – Gauteng Numbers non local
+2714 – Gauteng Numbers non local
+2715 – Gauteng Numbers non local
+2716 – Gauteng Numbers non local
+2717 – Gauteng Numbers non local
+2718 – Gauteng Numbers non local
Last but not the least, Cellular providers:
+2770
+2771
+2772
+2773
+2774
+2776
+2777
+2778
+2779
+2781
+2782
+2783
+2784
Something worth nothing when setting up normalisation rules, I am finding an ever increasing purpose for “at least” as apposed to “exactly” in the numbering, I found 0861 numbers to be longer than 11 characters and in some cases even working when only dialing 11 characters. This could merely be a publishing issue on the websites I looked at, but be that as it may, it works nicely with service numbers such as 10118, which would fall under “Number starts with 10, normalise to +2710, and must be at least 4 digits long”
The same would apply to cellular provider service numbers, such as vodacom 082 911, for example, so “Number starts with 082, normalise to +2782 and must be at least 5 digits long”
Hope this helps someone out there, if you have more for me to add pass them on!
